The Pittsburgh Penguins have distributed 18,000 free tickets to area youth for Saturday’s 3 p.m. pre-season game against the Minnesota Wild at CONSOL Energy Center – a unique promotion known as the “Free Game for Kids,” celebrating the team’s young demographic.

“We get such tremendous support from our young fans that we thought this ‘Free Game For Kids’ would be a very special way to reach out and say thank you – and to perhaps give some of them the chance to attend a Penguins’ game in person for the first time,” said David Morehouse, CEO and President of the team. “It’s going to be an exciting atmosphere. I know our players and coaches are looking forward to it.”

Tickets were distributed to local youth hockey organizations, the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Hockey League, the Tickets For Kids Foundation, Hill District youth, members of the TGI Friday’s Penguins Kids Club, local university students, the Little Penguins’ Learn-To-Play program and groups such as the Boy Scouts, Boys & Girls Clubs, Big Brothers and Big Sisters, Make-A-Wish, The Children’s Institute and Autism Speaks.

The Pittsburgh Children’s Festival Chorus will perform the national anthem; graphics, music and game features will be geared specifically for young people; there be special “kids’ cams” for crowd interaction; and Trib Total Media Junior Reporter Eva Dorr will assist Dan Potash of ROOT Sports with intermission interviews.

And other than parents/guardians accompanying young children and chaperones for youth organizations and youth hockey teams, the entire arena will be filled with kids.

The game will be televised by ROOT SPORTS.
