John Gibson, J.T. Miller and Barrett Kaib – all products of the Pittsburgh Hornets youth hockey program – have led Team USA into the semifinals of the World Under-18 Championships in Crimmitschau, Germany.

The U.S., which was 4-0 in round-robin competition, will meet Canada in a semifinal game Saturday afternoon.

Gibson, who grew up in Whitehall, is the tournament’s top goaltender with a 1.84 goals-against average and .940 save percentage. He is the No. 1 ranked North American goaltender for the 2011 NHL Entry Draft, according to NHL Central Scouting.

Miller, who grew up in East Palestine, Ohio and Moon, is Team USA’s top scorer with three goals and five assists for eight points. Miller, who netted two goals in a 4-3 win over Russia, is rated as a first-round pick for the 2011 NHL Draft.

Kaib, who grew up in Upper St. Clair and also played in the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Hockey League, has chipped in two assists and is plus-4 while helping to anchor the U.S. defense.

All three have committed to top NCAA Division 1 programs for next season – Gibson at Michigan, Miller at North Dakota and Kaib at Providence.
