The Penguins hosted a “Students for Stanley” contest for students throughout Allegheny County and the City of Pittsburgh as the team begins the quest for another Stanley Cup.
The “Students for Stanley” contest invited elementary, middle and high school students to create 4’x6’ banners and submit one banner per grade level to represent their school. The schools then submitted a photograph of their banner for a panel of judges to view. The judges looked for school spirit and enthusiasm for the Pittsburgh Penguins.
The Penguins’ judges determined a winner for each grade level, Grades 1 - 12, and each winning grade’s banner will be displayed at CONSOL Energy Center during the first round of the 2011 Stanley Cup Playoffs. A list of the winners in each grade level and a picture of their banner are featured below.
Banners were also selected as the overall winners for elementary, middle and high schools. The overall winning banner for elementary schools was created by Pivik Elementary School in Plum, PA; the middle school banner was made by Mellon Middle School in Pittsburgh, PA; and the high school banner by Carlynton Junior-Senior High School in Carnegie, PA. Each overall winner will receive a commemorative “Students for Stanley” trophy for their school to display.
We thank all schools and students who participated in the “Students for Stanley” contest and look forward to hosting other contests in the upcoming season!
