Penguins Lead The Way In Food Donations As Part of NHL\u2019s \"Rock and Wrap It Up!\" Program
The Pittsburgh Penguins, in conjunction with food provider ARAMARK, have donated more than 10 tons of concession food that otherwise would have been discarded to the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank this season as part of the NHL’s “Rock and Wrap It Up!’’ food program.

The program calls for all 30 NHL teams to pack up all prepared but untouched concession food on game nights and donate it to local community shelters. The Penguins’ donation of 20,057 pounds of food – the equivalent of 15,248 meals for the Food Bank – ranks first among the 24 U.S.-based NHL teams, and second overall in the NHL.

The food is donated after each Penguins home game at CONSOL Energy Center. These donations also divert thousands of pounds of waste from reaching landfills.

“We thank our partners at ARAMARK for their commitment to this very important community program,” said David Morehouse, CEO and President of the Penguins. “Food that otherwise would have gone to waste is now being turned into thousands of meals for the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank to provide to those in need. We’re proud to be a part of it.”

Participation in programs such as “Rock and Wrap It Up” is part of the Penguins’ continuing commitment to the community, and to environmentally-friendly initiatives. The new CONSOL Energy Center achieved LEED Gold certification in August – the first NHL arena to reach that standard of sustainability.
