Penguins Sign Center Mark Letestu to Two-Year Contract Extension
The Pittsburgh Penguins have signed center Mark Letestu to a two-year contract extension, it was announced today by executive vice president and general manager Ray Shero.

The new contract goes into effect at the start of the 2011-12 season and will run through 2012-13. The average annual value of the deal is $625,000 over the term of the contract.

Letestu, 25, is in his first full season with Pittsburgh. He has nine goals and 19 points in 46 games this year. He ranks eighth in goals, 10th in scoring and second (tied) with three game-winning goals among all NHL rookies.

Letestu (5-foot-11, 195 pounds) made his NHL debut last season with Pittsburgh, appearing in 10 games and four postseason games. He scored his first career NHL goal against Buffalo Feb. 1, 2010.

Letestu, who originally signed with the Penguins organization as a free agent on March 22, 2007, played the previous three-plus seasons with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton of the American Hockey League. He accumulated 51 goals, 83 assists, 134 points and a plus-30 rating in 191 games with WBS. Letestu posted 16 playoff points (2G-14A) in 30 postseason contests, and helped the team earn a berth in the Calder Cup Final in 2008.

The Elk Point, Alberta native played one collegiate season at Western Michigan. Letestu was named Central Collegiate Hockey Association Rookie of the Year after recording 24 goals and 46 points in 37 games. He ranked third in the CCHA in goals and seventh in points, while leading the nation with five shorthanded goals.
