Winter Classic to Feature Music, Hockey and Football Legends
NEW YORK (December 29, 2010) – The 2011 Bridgestone NHL Winter Classic on New Year’s Day at Heinz Field (1 p.m., ET, NBC, CBC, RDS, NHL Radio) will feature a tribute to Pittsburgh legends, with performers from the Pittsburgh area and beyond.

The festivities will begin with a pre-game performance from multi platinum rock band Hinder. As the Pittsburgh Penguins and Washington Capitals make their way to the ice, 41 student members of the Mt. Lebanon High School percussion program will provide “thunderous” musical accompaniment.

As part of a time-honored tradition, Canadian singer Steven Page will perform the Canadian anthem, followed by singer and Pittsburgh native Jackie Evancho, who will perform the U.S. national anthem.  Immediately following the anthems, U.S. Army Sergeant First Class Bradley T. Tinstman will drop a ceremonial puck, joined by Pittsburgh sports legends Mario Lemieux, Franco Harris and Jerome Bettis.

The first intermission will feature a performance from Pittsburgh’s own, The Clarks.

At the start of the second intermission, former Pittsburgh Steelers offensive stars Harris and Bettis will face-off in The Legends of Pittsburgh Charity Shootout Presented by Discover.  Harris and Bettis will tackle a special “hockey challenge” on the Heinz Field auxiliary rink, with Discover donating $500 for each goal scored to two youth hockey programs from the NHL’s Hockey is For Everyone initiative - Pittsburgh ICE and the Washington, D.C.-based Fort Dupont Ice Hockey Club.

Throughout the NHL Winter Classic, youth hockey players from Pittsburgh Ice and the Fort Dupont Ice Hockey Club will scrimmage on the auxiliary ice inside Heinz Field.
