Penguins prospect Simon Despres was one of 22 players selected to play for Team Canada in the upcoming 2011 World Junior Championships to be held Dec. 26-Jan. 5 in Buffalo, N.Y.

The 19-year-old defenseman was originally drafted by the Penguins in the first round of the 2009 NHL Entry Draft (30th overall).

In 2009-10, Despres set career highs in goals (9), assists (38), points (47) and plus-minus (+26) in 63 games with the Sea Dogs. He added 19 points (2G-17A) in 21 playoff games.
