Penguins Keep Pizza Delivery Tradition Alive
The Penguins may be playing in a new building, but the traditions of the most fan-friendly team in professional sports – as ranked by ESPN the Magazine – also made the journey across the street.

Maxime Talbot hands out pizzas to Student Rushers
Five Penguins delivered pizza to hungry students who waited in line all day for Student Rush tickets to see the Penguins take on Vancouver Wednesday night.

The students cheered when Matt Cooke, Pascal Dupuis, Deryk Engelland, Ben Lovejoy and Maxime Talbot walked out the door carrying dozens of pizza boxes as well as Sun Drop cola.

Dupuis ran from the start of the line at the American Eagle Gate all the way to the far end of the arena to give a box to students in the back of the line.

“They were last in line,” Dupuis said. “I kind of felt bad for them.”

Alysa Osipovitch, Brittany Reilly and Kevin Black were a little farther back in line. They had been waiting in line since 3 p.m.

“It was crazy,” Reilly said. “We were waiting in line for a while and we were hungry. Then Pascal Dupuis gave us a pizza.”

“It’s the only thing I’ve had to eat all day,” Black said while enjoying a sip of soda. “Sun Drop is my favorite drink now.”

Pens players give away free pizza to fans

Slippery Rock students Jess Rispoli and Kat Dixon stood at the front of the line.

“Max Talbot gave us a pizza,” said Dixon, who had been waiting since noon.

“I couldn’t even breathe when I saw the players come out,” Rispoli said.

Rispoli also got to meet Ben Lovejoy.

“Lovejoy is the nicest person I’ve ever met in my life,” she said. “He gave me an autograph and got a picture with me like it was not even a big deal at all.

“I’m so excited right now. It’s my first student rush. It’s been a great day.”
