The Pittsburgh Penguins’ 167th straight sellout crowd will pack CONSOL Energy Center Thursday night when the Pens host the Philadelphia Flyers at 7 p.m. in the first regular-season NHL game ever played at the new arena.

Seating capacity at CONSOL Energy Center is 18,087, although more than 100 standing-room-only tickets will be sold. The Penguins have sold out every home regular-season and playoff game for the past three seasons. The team-record sellout streak dates back to late in the 2006-07 season.

Fans attending Thursday’s game will receive a “commemorative ticket” to honor the opener. Each one-of-kind aluminum ticket, presented by Trib Total Media, has been hand-made by local artisans and craftsmen at Grove City-based Wendell August Forge.

Fans are asked to be in their seats at 6:45 p.m. for a special pre-game ceremony.

Two activities for fans will take place outside CONSOL Energy Center:

  • Penguins players will walk a red carpet to enter the arena at the American Eagle Outfitters Gate – at the corner of Fifth Avenue and Washington Place. Players are expected to enter between 4:15-5:00 p.m.
  • An outdoor screen will be placed outside the American Eagle Outfitters Gate for fans to watch the game, as well as pre-game festivities.
