Lemieux, Talbot, Dupuis Join Penguins\' Fans, Media Celebrities to \"Grow One for the Team\"
Pittsburgh Penguins fans have pledged more than $33,000 for the Mario Lemieux Foundation since the start of the playoffs last week, as Penguins’ players, fans, media celebrities – and Mario himself – have been growing playoff beards for charity as part of the team’s second annual “Beard-A-Thon.”

Penguins players Max Talbot and Pascal Dupuis are again among the celebrity fundraisers. They have been joined by Pittsburgh media personalities Dan Potash of FSN Pittsburgh, Bill Phillips of WPXI, Vinnie Richichi from 93.7 The Fan, and Michael Dougherty and Bob Mason (Mikey and Big Bob) from 96.1 KISS FM.  Click the beard icons to visit their Beard-A-Thon profiles.

A number of NHL teams are participating in Beard-A-Thons, and the Penguins currently lead the league in the number of beard growers, the number of pledges and total money raised.

Fans willing to grow playoff beards themselves may enroll online at www.beardathon.com/penguins and upload photos. Throughout the playoffs, beard growers can ask their friends, family members and co-workers to pledge their beards while updating their profile pictures. The Penguins will award prizes to the three beard-growers who raise the most money for charity.

Fans who prefer not to grow playoff beards (or are unable to grow them!) also are encouraged to participate by supporting friends, family members or any of the celebrities who are growing beards.

The Mario Lemieux Foundation is dedicated to raising funds for cancer and neonatal research as well as Austin’s Playroom Project, an initiative that creates sibling playrooms in medical facilities. Additional information about the Mario Lemieux Foundation is available at www.mariolemieux.org. All donations to the Mario Lemieux Foundation are tax deductible.
