Pens-Sabres Live In-Game Blog
Track all the action from Pittsburgh's showdown with the Buffalo Sabres with our live in-game blog. Check back for stat updates, injury reports and other information.

0:00: The Sabres survived Pittsburgh's final rush and pulled off the come-from-behind victory with a 4-3 decision.

0:09: Lalime smothered the puck and the Penguins will give it one last ditch effort.

0:25: The Penguins and Sabres have been given matching penalties. We'll skate four-on-four.

0:33: Malkin had a great shot above the near circle that just missed the side of the cage.

1:32: Fleury has been pulled from the net.

3:00: Three minutes remain in the third period and the Penguins nearly tied hte game. Sergei Gonchar's shot form the point nearly found its way into the net. Crosby came close on the rebound.

6:33: The Sabres killed the penalty and avoid disaster.

7:52: Kunitz had a great snap-shot opportunity in the slot but Lalime smothered the puck.

8:46: The Penguins will go on the power play with a chance to tie this game up after Steve Montador took a penalty.

9:05: Jason Pominville gives Buffalo the lead with a power-play score. Pominville took the puck near the bottom far circle and roofed a shot into the goal. Sabres 4, Penguins 3.

9:55: The Penguins go back on the penalty kill and Buffalo has a golden opportunity to get their first lead of the game.

10:29: The Penguins were running around in their own zone and Buffalo was getting fire on the net. Fleury was able to smother the puck and stop a few opportunities.





12:32: The Sabres drove hard to the net. Stafford made a strong move ot the net and found Paul Gaustad to the side of the crease. Gaustad re-directed the rubber over the goal line to tie the game. Penguins 3, Sabres 3.

14:02: Jay McKee does a great job of breaking up a centering pass by Buffalo. Good defensive play by the former Sabre.

15:34: Goligoski is back on the ice for Pittsburgh. A good sign considering how he was stunned in the knee after blocking a shot.

16:20: Thomas Vanek had a great chance on the doorstep but Fleury kept the puck out of the net. Fleury stayed down for some time and leaned his weight on his stick. Let's hope the Flower is OK.

17:39: Alex Goligoski blocked a shot and was stunned by the shot. He limped to the bench.

20:00: The puck falls and the third period begins.

SECOND PERIOD NOTES:
- Drew Stafford has a game-high five shots and two goals
- Jordan Staal leads the Pens with four shots
- Brooks Orpik has a game-high five hits
- Crosby is now 10-3 in the faceoff circle (77 percent)

0:00: The second period comes to a close with Pittsburgh leading 3-2. The Penguins also have a 28-19 advantage in shots. Both teams combined for 33 shots in the second period alone.

0:19: Kunitz has a great opportunity streaking down the near side but riffles a shot wide.

1:43: Pittsburgh kills off the penalty and Staal exits the box.

2:46: The Penguins had a great scoring chance with a two-on-one with Max Talbot and Craig Adams. Talbot held the puck and tried to shoot but his stick snapped in half as he tried to snap off the shot. What terrible luck for Talbot.

3:46: Pittsburgh's Jordan Staal goes to the box for tripping. The Sabres have a chance now to tie this game up.

5:05: The Sabres pulled within one with another tally. Clarke MacArthur took from the slot. The rebound came out to Stafford, who stickhandled around Fleury and slid the puck into the goal. Penguins 3, Sabres 2.

6:07: Hecht nearly sneaked a shot from the near corner. Fleury was able to get a pad on the puck. The shot nearly banked off Fleury and into the goal but Fleury was able to keep it out.

6:42: The Penguins responded by going right on the attack and getting chances. Lalime stopped a shot from Brooks Orpik and made a split glove save on Matt Cooke's shot from the midpoint.

7:14: After a lengthy revie, Drew Stafford comes in on the penalty shot against Fleury. Stafford buried the shot five-hole on Fleury to get Buffalo on the scoreboard. Penguins 3, Sabres 1.

7:14: With Fleury out of net and the puck loose in the crease, Jay McKee covered the puck and Buffalo was awarded a penalty shot.

8:33: The Penguins kill off the penalty and hold on for the 3-0 advantage.





10:33: The Sabres power play gets a chance to get them back in the game as Godard goes to the box for holding.

11:31: Crosby had a chance right in front and nearly juked Lalime into a goal. Dupuis had a great chance seconds later but his shot went wide. On that possession, Pittsburgh held the puck in the Buffalo zone for nearly a full minute.

13:28: Alex Goligoski had a great opportunity on the doorstep but he couldn't get wood on a bouncing puck. Patrick Lalime was down and out but the puck bounced over Goose's stick.

14:22: Kunitz had a great shot from the near circle off a two-on-one rush for Pittsburgh.

15:52: The Sabres kill off the penalty and avoid falling into a deep hole against the Penguins.

17:28: Johan Hecht goes to the box for hooking and Pittsburgh's power play will go to work.

18:32: The Sabres pulled Miller from the game and replaced him with Patrick Lalime.

18:32: The Penguins score again!!!! Pittsburgh carried the puck into the Sabres zone for a three-on-three, but Chris Kunitz trailed the play. Crosby found Kunitz in the high slot. Kunitz blasted the puck into the goal for the score. Penguins 3, Sabres 0.

19:06: Fleury made three consecutive great saves for Pittsburgh to keep Buffalo scoreless.

19:27: Tyler Kennedy had a great one-timer chance on Miller but his shot went just wide.

FIRST PERIOD NOTES
- Sidney Crosby was a perfect 4-0 in faceoffs.
- Crosby also has a game-high 3 shots
- Jordan Staal, who has one goal in the game, finished with a plus-2 rating

0:00: The first period comes to a close as Pittsburgh fought hard all the way to the whistle. The Penguins lead 2-0 and have a 10-4 advantage in shots.

0:30: The Penguins kept the pressure on as Evgeni Malkin had two great opportunities but couldn't convert for scores.

1:29: This time a Guerin shot sneaks in from the far halfwall. The Penguins did a great job of keeping the pressure on in the offensive zone, thanks to some great pinches by the defense. Guerin collected the puck and put a perfect shot under Miller's blocker. Penguins 2, Sabres 0.

3:09: Bill Guerin gets off a nice snap shot from above the near circle that Miller stuffs into his chest.

3:53: The Penguins kill off the penalty unscathed and maintain their 1-0 lead.

4:41: Penguins penalty kill is good so far. No shots and limited possession time for Buffalo.





5:58: Eric Godard gets called for a slashing penalty and Pittsburgh goes on the penalty kill.

7:30: Sidney Crosby had a great chance on a two-on-one. He deked Miller to the ice but couldn't get the puck towards the goal.

8:20: Fleury makes a couple of great saves. A few of the pucks sneaked through him but slid wide of hte goal.

10:12: The Penguins had a few great opportunities thanks to a pinch play by Mark Eaton, who is back in the lineup. But Ryan Miller stood his ground.





15:04: Marc-Andre Fleury kicks out a hard shot by Tim Connolly to keep Buffalo off the scoreboard.

15:52: The Penguins take an early lead just four minutes into the game. Tyler Kennedy, who was scratched in the previous game, retrieved a chipped puck in the Buffalo zone and got a shot off from the lower near circle. Miller kicked out the rebound to Jordan Staal, who shot it into the net. Penguins 1, Sabres 0.

18:12: The Penguins have two great opportunities in the Buffalo zone. Sidney Crosby got off both shots that Ryan Miller turned aside.

20:00: Aaaaaaaannnnnnnddddddd....... Begin!

FIRST PERIOD

7:03 PM: Got the official scratches from Jason Seidling in Buffalo. The Penguins are sitting down Martin Skoula and Ruslan Fedotenko. The Sabres are playing without forwards Derek Roy and Patrick Kaleta and defenseman Andrej Sekera.

7:00 PM: Pittsburgh gets a boost to its lineup with the return of Mark Eaton on defense. Eaton missed the last three games with a knee injury. Eaton will replace Martin Skoula on the Pittsburgh blue line.

We'll wait for official word on which of the 13 forwards will be a healthy scratch for tonight's game. Tyler Kennedy sat in Sunday's contest against Toronto.
