Greater Pittsburgh Special Hockey Association Announces Team for Players Living with Autism, Down Syndrome and Developmental Delays
The Greater Pittsburgh Special Hockey Association will host an observation and registration day for the area’s first “special” hockey team, the Steel City Icebergs, on Saturday, June 6, 2009 at 10:30 am at the RMU Island Sports Center. Four subsequent summer skills sessions will be held in June and July.

The association will serve individuals ages 5 and older living with Autism, Down Syndrome and other developmental delays who have not had the opportunity to participate in a local youth hockey program.

Previous ice hockey experience is not necessary; however, full ice hockey equipment is required to play.

The Pittsburgh Penguins as well as other organizations and individuals have donated a limited number of sets of equipment to the program that may be borrowed based on availability.

Please contact the organization’s president and founder Stephanie Maust at (724) 712-3779 or e-mail pittsburghspecialhockey@yahoo.com for more information.
