Pittsburgh Penguins Announce Students for Stanley Contests
With the Pittsburgh Penguins’ advancement into the Stanley Cup Final, a decision has been made to extend the “Students for Stanley” contests until Thursday, June 4.

The Pittsburgh Penguins have added a new dimension to their community outreach program with promotions highlighting the team’s quest for the Stanley Cup.

The Penguins are giving all elementary, middle and intermediate schools in Allegheny County and the City of Pittsburgh an opportunity to win prizes benefiting their school when they enter the team’s “Students for Stanley” contest.

Each school, grades 1-8, will be judged on a video presentation of the students’ creative use of signage in and around the school with an emphasis on creativity, innovation and school spirit.  Contest rules and instructions are available at http://penguins.nhl.com/studentsigns.

The Grand Prize winning school will receive a $5,000 donation from the Penguins’ organization for a pre-determined in-school student program.  The second place school will be awarded $3,000 and third place will receive $2,000.

In addition, the Penguins have created a high school essay contest for all students in Allegheny County and the City of Pittsburgh.  The student essays will focus on how the Penguins’ success has been shaped through Energy, Drive and Innovation.

Three overall Grand Prize winners will be selected for each grade level.  Students writing winning entries will each receive two tickets to a Penguins 2009-2010 regular season home game and all winning essays will be posted on the Penguins website.

The Penguins have an extensive community outreach program with an emphasis on youth and education.  Earlier this playoff season, the Penguins hosted an artwork and essay contest for Allegheny County students in grades 1-12.
