Francis Takes Part In Charity Mask Auction

Mark Messier, Al MacInnis, Ron Francis and Scott Stevens joined the journey to find a cure for paralysis this past weekend.

Four of hockey’s greatest players and the most recent inductees to the Hockey Hall of Fame lent their names to the Shoot For A Cure Mask Auction.

Shoot For A Cure, a hockey focused campaign of the Canadian and American Spinal Research Organization, partnered with Itech designer Mark Hart, to create the masks. Hart custom designed each of the four masks as a tribute to the four inductees. Autographed by each of the players, the one of a kind masks are now available for bid online on the nhl.com auction web site.

Shoot For A Cure Chairman Barry Munro is especially excited for this year’s auction, “We are fortunate to have arguably one of the best Hall of Fame classes in history participate in our mask auction. We would like to thank each of the inductees for their contribution.”

Integral partners to the success of the auction include Source For Sports, Itech Hockey, who donated the masks and the Hockey Hall Of Fame, where the masks will be displayed until November 2008.

This marks the fourth year for the auction, which runs now until Dec. 7.  Past participants have included Michael Jordan, Wayne Gretzky, the Rolling Stones and Tiger Woods, who have helped to raise over $100,000 for the program in the past three years.  For more information and to participate, visit www.shootforacure.org.

Shoot For A Cure is a fundraising campaign of the Canadian and American Spinal Research Organization. It is directly focused on and led by the hockey community.  Shoot For A Cure seeks to raise funds for spinal cord research, to raise awareness of spinal cord injuries in sport and to promote prevention of neurotraumatic injuries through sporting events, the sports community, sponsorship, donations and the Play It Cool™ program.
