Penguins Sign Goaltender David Brown

Executive Vice President and General Manager Ray Shero announced that the club has signed goaltender David Brown to an NHL Entry Level contract.

David Brown

Brown, 22, completed a successful four-year career at the University of Notre Dame in the Central Collegiate Hockey Association (CCHA).  In 2006-07, he led the NCAA in goals-against average at 1.58 and posted a .931 save percentage, which ranked second in the nation.  He led all goaltenders in wins, posting a 30-6-3 record and helped lead Notre Dame to the CCHA regular season title, the first in school history.  Notre Dame finished the regular season as the top-ranked team in the country.

The 6-0, 203-pound native of Stoney Creek, Ontario was selected as the CCHA Player of the Year and First Team All-CCHA to go along with his honors as 2007 CCHA Tournament MVP and All-Tournament Team.  Brown was named national Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year, as well as a First Team All-American by United States College Hockey Online (USCHO).  In addition, Brown was one of the ten finalists for the Hobey Baker Memorial Award, which annually honors the best player in college hockey.

Brown was originally an eighth-round selection (228th overall) of the Penguins in the 2004 NHL Entry Draft.
