Hershey staved off a Wilkes-Barre/Scranton comeback to post a 4-3 win in the first game of the AHL East Division Finals.

Connor James got the Penguins on the scoreboard first when he found the back of the net 13:34 into the opening period.

The Bears retaliated for three-straight goals. Joey Tenute knotted it at 1-all at the first intermission. Jakub Klepis gave the hosts a 2-1 lead through two periods and Quintin Laing made it a 3-1 game 8:00 into the third.

Marc-Antoine Pouliot sliced Wilkes-Barre/Scranton’s deficit to 3-2 with 1:14 to play with a short-handed goal.

Hershey’s Matt Hendricks tallied an empty-net goal with 23 seconds on the clock and a 4-2 buffer.

However, the Penguins’ Matt Carkner scored a goal with four seconds to play to cap the scoring.

Game 2 of the series is Friday night in Hershey.
