PENGUINS DOMINATE \'THE HOCKEY NEWS\' AWARDS

The Hockey News selected Sidney Crosby of the Pittsburgh Penguins for its two most prestigious individual awards -- as the NHL’s Best Player and MVP -- in its recent awards issue.

The international hockey publication also honored the Penguins’ Evgeni Malkin as the Best First-Year Player and Michel Therrien as the Best Coach in the 2006-07 season.The Hockey News named Crosby to the NHL’s first all-star team at center. He was joined by left winger Dany Heatley of Ottawa, right winger Teemu Selanne of Anaheim, defensemen Nicklas Lidstrom of Detroit and Chris Pronger of Anaheim and goaltender Robert Luongo of Vancouver.

Malkin led the all-rookie team and was joined by forwards Paul Stastny of Colorado and Anze Kopitar of Los Angeles, defensemen Matt Carle and M-E Vlasic of San Jose and goaltender Niklas Backstrom of Minnesota.

Penguins center Jordan Staal finished in the top five in The Hockey News’ ratings for Best First-Year Player and Top Penalty Killer.
