QUAKER VALLEY, FREEPORT ADVANCE TO PENGUINS CUP CLASS A TITLE GAME
Quaker Valley will get a chance to defend its 84 Lumber PIHL Penguins Cup Class A championship.
The Quakers rolled past Bishop McCort, 7-0, Monday night at the Ice Castle in a semifinal contest. Freeport upended Mars, 3-1, in the other semifinal to set up the Penguins Cup Class A title game Saturday at 5:30 p.m. at Mellon Arena between Quaker Valley and Freeport.
Colin South had a hat-trick for the Quakers. Breton McNamara scored two goals and added two assists, while Greg Dyer had two goals and two assists for the defending Penguins Cup and Pennsylvania Cup champions. George Jackson had three assists, while Aaron Kostial, Noah Zamagias and Mikael Lemieux, the nephew of Mario Lemieux, all had two helpers.
Zac Zinger stopped all 34 shots he faced to earn the shutout win in goal.
Freeport 3, Mars 1
Pat Spangler scored twice to lead the Yellowjackets past the Planets.
Beau Zack had a goal and two assists for Freeport, while Zack Hepler had two assists on the night. Cody Barker and Jeremy Hepler both added assists.
Tim Zahumensky stopped 26 shots to earn the win in goal.
Mike Hehman tallied the lone Mars goal. Andrew Santa added an assist on the play.
In Tuesday’s Class AA semifinals at Ice Castle, West Allegheny (14-8-2) meets Pine-Richland (21-1-1) at 6:30 p.m., while Franklin Regional (16-6-1) takes on Thomas Jefferson (16-5-2) at 8:30 p.m.
