MEADVILLE, CENTRAL CATHOLIC ROLL IN PIHL PLAYOFF OPENERS

The PIHL Penguins Cup playoffs opened Monday night with a pair of shutouts as Meadville rolled past Penn-Trafford, 8-0, and Pittsburgh Central Catholic blanked North Hills, 7-0.

Meadville 8, Penn-Trafford 0

Meadville scored six times in a 6:29 span in the first period to grab a 4-0 lead. The Bulldogs (16-4-2) got a hat-trick from Morgan Nickerson, who added two assists. Mike Noonan had a goal and four assists, while Nicholas Fedorka had two goals and an assist. Patrick Leone added three assists, while Aaron Nye had two helpers. Luke Killmeyer tallied a goal and an assist, while Zane O’Shurak had a goal and Alex Drelick and Codi Peterson both had assists.

Mike Liscinski stopped 14 shots in goal to earn the shutout.

Central Catholic 7, North Hills 0

Chris Urso had three goals and an assist to lead the Vikings (16-6-0). Andy Hannon had two goals and an assist, while Renars Rukmanis had a goal and an assist. C.J. Burke and Jake Roberts both had two assists. Mike Kretz scored a goal, while Tyler Scherer, Don Cercone, Josh Martin and Ian Jablanowski all had assists.

Martin earned the shutout in goal with 15 saves.
