PENGUINS RETURN HOME TUESDAY TO TAKE ON DEVILS
The Pittsburgh Penguins return home Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. to take on the New Jersey Devils.
The contest is the second of four games in a six-day span for the Penguins (33-19-9). In addition, the game wraps up Pittsburgh’s February schedule. In March, the Penguins play 17 games in 31 days.
New Jersey (39-18-6) owns a nine-point lead over the Penguins in the Atlantic Division standings. The Devils have won three of the first five meetings between the squads. After Tuesday’s game, the Devils return to Mellon Arena on March 8 and the Penguins travel to New Jersey on March 14.
Sidney Crosby owns a 12-point lead in the NHL scoring race. The 19-year-old center has 97 points (26+71) in 58 games, while Tampa Bay’s Martin St. Louis is next with 85 points (38+47) through 64 games – six more than Crosby, who has recorded a point in his last seven games (1+10).
Evgeni Malkin maintains an 11-point lead in the NHL rookie scoring race. The 20-year-old center has 69 points (29+40) in 57 games. Colorado’s Paul Stastny is second with 58 points (21+37) in 63 games – six more than Malkin, who has notched a point in his last seven games (3+7).
Jordan Staal is sixth in rookie scoring with 32 points (25+7) in 60 games. He leads all NHL players with five short-handed goals and a 26.3 shooting percentage.
Sergei Gonchar remains among the scoring leaders for NHL defensemen. He has 51 points (10+41) in 61 games. Detroit’s Nicklas Lidstrom tops the list with 54 points (10+44) in 63 games.
