ISLANDERS RALLY TO SNAP PENGUINS\' POINT STREAK AT 16 GAMES

UNIONDALE, N.Y. – The New York Islanders rallied to beat the Penguins, 6-5, Monday afternoon.

Mike Sillinger’s goal with 26.8 seconds to play ended the Penguins’ 16-game points streak. It was Pittsburgh’s first regulation loss since Jan. 10 in Florida.

Ryan Malone found the back of the net 45 seconds into the game. He knocked down a rebound and swatted it past Rick DiPietro for a 1-0 lead. Sidney Crosby backhanded a puck at the net and it bounced out to Malone. He swatted it past DiPietro for the Penguins goal. Mark Recchi added an assist.

Viktor Kozlov ripped a shot past Marc-Andre Fleury for a power-play goal with 5:11 left in the period.

Recchi poked a power-play goal into the net with 48.2 left in the period. Crosby, along the far post, shoveled a pass to Recchi on the near post and he slammed it into the net. Malkin earned the other assist.

Malone found the back of the net 49 seconds into the second period. Crosby’s shot hit off the net and Malone picked up the rebound, swooped around the back of the net and jammed the puck past DiPietro. Recchi added an assist on the play.

New York responded with three goals in 6:02.

Chris Simon got one back 2:03 into the second period as he one-timed a shot past Fleury.

Jason Blake tied it at 3-all 15 seconds later when the Islanders parlayed a Penguins turnover into a goal. Blake tapped Randy Robitaille’s pass out of the air and into the cage.

Miroslav Satan poked in a rebound with 11:55 on the clock for a 4-3 Islanders advantage.

Recchi swatted the rebound off Sergei Gonchar’s shot into the net with 1:59 to play. Gonchar’s hard shot from the blue line deflected off Staal and smacked off the end boards to the far post. Recchi chipped the puck at the net and swatted it out of the air and into the cage for a power-play goal.

Malone tallied the hat-trick 48 seconds into the third period. Crosby fired a shot at net and the puck deflected off DiPietro to Malone in the slot. His initial shot was stopped, but he slapped in his own rebound for a 5-4 lead. Recchi added an assist.

Simon ripped a shot past Fleury 1:11 later to knot the game at 5-all.

Sillinger found the back of the net with 26.8 seconds to play as his wrist shot snuck past Fleury.
