MALKIN\'S TWO GOALS HELP CONTINUE PENGUINS\' DOMINATION OVER FLYERS

PHILADELPHIA – Evgeni Malkin’s two goals helped guide the Penguins to a 5-3 win in Philadelphia on Saturday.

The win was the sixth-straight over the Flyers this season.

Ryan Potulny banged in a rebound 1:37 into the game to give the Flyers a 1-0 lead.

Sergei Gonchar rifled a one-time from the slot past Antero Niittymaki with 12:34 left in the period to knot the game at 1. Jarkko Ruutu fired an off-balance pass to Gonchar in the slot and he ripped it into the goal.

Malkin scored with 5:12 left in the first period. He banged in the rebound off Michel Ouellet’s shot.

Mark Recchi wristed a shot over Niittymaki’s shoulder with 4:44 left in the second period. Sidney Crosby, along the far wall, fed a pass to Recchi. He skated in on goal and unleashed a hard wrister that sailed into the net. Ryan Whitney added the other assist.

Simon Gagne trimmed Philadelphia’s deficit to 3-2 with 2:56 left in the period.

Peter Forsberg deflected a slap-shot past Marc-Andre Fleury with 1:32 on the clock to knot the game at 3-all.

Jordan Staal scored with 12:26 remaining in the game. Malkin, streaking down the near side feathered a perfect pass across the slot to Staal, who was skating to the net along the far side. Staal tapped the puck into net for a 4-3 advantage. Ouellet added the other assist.

Malkin rifled an empty-net goal from center ice with 32 seconds to play. Ouellet and Staal picked up assists.

Fleury stopped 15 of 18 shots to earn the win in goal.

Pittsburgh returns home Tuesday to take on the New York Islanders.
