SUNRISE, Fla. – Olli Jokinen’s hat-trick fueled the Florida Panthers to a 5-2 win Wednesday night over the Pittsburgh Penguins.

Jokinen gave the Panthers a 1-0 lead 5:27 into the game when he redirected a shot over Jocelyn Thibault’s glove and into the net.

Jokinen struck again with 9:44 left in the second period when he rifled a slap-shot past Thibault.

Evgeni Malkin trimmed the Penguins’ deficit to 2-1 when he backhanded Michel Ouellet’s rebound from crease into the net with 7:34 remaining in the second.

Jokinen completed the hat-trick 3:23 into the third period when he one-timed a puck past Thibault.

Josef Stumpel made it 4-1 just 18 seconds later when he intercepted a pass and roofed the puck past Thibault.

Colby Armstrong knocked in a puck with 8:38 remaining. In a scrum in front of the net, Armstrong hacked at the puck and flipped it into the net to trim the Penguins’ deficit to 4-2. Ryan Whitney and Max Talbot earned the assist on the goal.

Martin Gelinas tapped a puck past Thibault with 5:28 to go to make it a 5-2 game.
