WILKES-BARRE, PA –  Wilkes-Barre/Scranton rookie forward Tyler Kennedy has named the CCM Vector/AHL Player of the Week for the period ending January 7.

The 20-year-old center recorded seven points (3+4) in two games over the weekend to garner the award.

Kennedy picked up two points (1+1) in a 6-5 loss to the Grand Rapids Griffins on Friday, Jan. 5, and followed that performance with a five point outing (2+3) in an 8-4 win over the Hershey Bears on Saturday, Jan. 6.

Kennedy’s total from Saturday’s victory tied the team mark for points in a game, set by John Slaney (1+4) on Jan. 21, 2000 against Hershey, and tied by Kurtis McLean (1+4) on Jan. 18, 2006 against Syracuse.

The native of Sault Ste. Marie, ON, is currently tied for seventh place among AHL rookies with 30 points (10+20).  Kennedy also ranks first on the Penguins in assists (20), third in points (30) and fifth in goals (10).

In recognition of his achievement, Kennedy will be presented with an etched crystal award prior to an upcoming Penguins home game.  He is the first Penguin to win the weekly award this season, and the first since Erik Christensen took home the honor for the period ending October 23, 2005.

The Penguins return to action this Friday when they visit the Chicago Wolves at 8:30 p.m.  They complete their Midwest road trip on Saturday when they travel to Grand Rapids to face the Griffins.
