CROSBY, FLEURY POWER PENGUINS PAST HURRICANES, 3-0

The momentum is building for the Pittsburgh Penguins.

Sidney Crosby tallied three points and Marc-Andre Fleury was unbeatable Tuesday night at Mellon Arena as the Penguins blanked the Carolina Hurricanes, 3-0.

Crosby scored a goal and added two assists to boost his NHL-lead point total to 61 (19+42). It gave the Penguins (17-15-6) their second win in as many games.

"We're playing 60 minutes. We're not taking time off," Crosby said. "Sometimes you have bad shifts, but it's up to the guys out there next to switch it and I think we've been doing a good job of making sure we don't have bad stints that take us out of the game."

Meanwhile, Fleury stopped all 31 shots to earn his fourth-career shutout - his second of the season.

"Marc-Andre was great. Our penalty killing was solid. That was probably the difference in the game," Crosby said. "Those guys made some big kills for us and Marc was a big help in that."

"I just tried to take one shot at a time. They didn't have as many scoring chances as we had," Fleury said. "I thought the team has played great the past two games from the beginning to the end. That's a big part of why we got the last two wins."

Crosby got the Penguins on the scoreboard 5:36 into the contest. Evgeni Malkin stole the puck in the Penguins zone and fed a pass up the near boards to Mark Recchi. He flipped it to a streaking Crosby, who wristed a shot from inside the near face-off circle between Cam Ward's legs for a 1-0 lead.

Ryan Whitney redirected Recchi's pass into the net 23 seconds into the third for a power-play goal. Crosby had the other assist. From the near side, Recchi fired a cross-ice pass to a streaking Whitney at the far post. He redirected the puck into the net for a 2-0 lead.

Crosby capped the scoring with 8:41 left in the third period. Carrying the puck down the near side, Crosby attempted to send a cross-crease pass to Recchi on the far post. However, the puck deflected off a Carolina defenseman and Crosby tapped it into the wide-open goal. Josef Melichar added the assist.

The Penguins return to action Friday in Buffalo.

ICE CHIPS: Ronald Petrovicky was the Penguins' healthy scratch...Bret Hedican and Kevyn Adams were the Hurricanes' scratches...The announced attendance was 16,957...Sidney Crosby (No. 1), Marc-Andre Fleury (No. 2) and Max Talbot (No. 3) were the game's three stars.
