PITTSBURGH PENGUINS ALUMNI HONOR MOON AREA HIGH SCHOOL SENIOR WITH 2ND ANNUAL ALUMNI SCHOLARSHIP

PITTSBURGH – The Pittsburgh Penguins Alumni Association has awarded its annual scholarship to Moon Area High School senior Alexander Hilliker.  The scholarship, valued at $2,000.00, is co-sponsored by the NHL Alumni Association.

The Alumni scholarship program was created in 2005 and is presented annually to a western Pennsylvania high school senior for academic excellence and for providing leadership, sportsmanship and a positive attitude as a member of their school’s hockey program.  Students must have a minimum grade point average of 3.2 to qualify for the scholarship.

Hilliker, a forward, served as captain of the Moon Area ice hockey team accumulating varsity totals of 18 goals and 46 points.  He also served as captain of The Pittsburgh Aviators AA-U-18 amateur hockey team where he notched 16 goals and 30 points.

He excelled academically as a member of the National Honor Society and was named to the Distinguished Honor Roll and High Honor Roll.  During his high school career, he was a member of the cross country team, marching band, foreign language competition and participated in the DECA Conference.

In addition to school activities, Hilliker served as a church camp counselor, sponsored a child in Africa, participated in a 30-hour fast for famine relief and participated in a mission trip to Cap Haitian, Haiti.  He also worked part-time at the Airport Ice Arena and served as Assistant Coach for his local travel Pee Wee Ice Hockey Team - the Pittsburgh Aviators Pee Wee B Team.

He is the son of David and Lisa (Dwyer) Hilliker of Moon Township, PA.  He attends the University of Michigan and plans a career in pre-law or political science.
