BLUES SNAP SKID WITH 4-1 WIN OVER PENGUINS

St. Louis snapped an 11-game losing streak Tuesday night with a 4-1 win over the Penguins at Mellon Arena.

In addition, it was the first victory behind the Blues' bench for new coach Andy Murray.

Nevertheless, Penguins star Sidney Crosby extended his points streak to nine games with a third-period assist. The NHL's top scorer now has 21 points (6+15) in his last nine games.

Doug Weight chipped a puck past Marc-Andre Fleury 44 seconds into the game for a 1-0 St. Louis lead.

Dan Hinote scored at 5:38 to give the Blues a 2-0 advantage.

Ryan Johnson tallied a short-handed goal 6:01 into the second to boost the St. Louis lead to 3-0. The goal chased Fleury, who was replaced in net by Jocelyn Thibault.

Evgeni Malkin got the Penguins on the scoreboard 4:06 into the third period with a power-play goal. A deflected Nils Ekman shot found Crosby near the far post. He sent a crisp pass across the crease to Malkin, who buried the puck into the net.

Bill Guerin scored 1:27 later to seal the verdict for the Blues.

"I thought they did a good job playing defense for sure. We had some more opportunities and we could have had more," Crosby said. "We didn't play that well and had a few chances. We just didn't play very well. We didn't have a good game as a team.

"We didn't have it tonight. There's no excuse. We can't come out like this."

The Penguins return to action Thursday in Atlanta.

ICE CHIPS: Dominic Moore and Ronald Petrovicky were the Penguins' healthy scratches...Dallas Drake, Bryce Salvador and Matt Walker were the Blues' healthy scratches...The announced attendance was 17,017...Jay McKee (No. 3), Dan Hinote (No. 2) and Doug Weight (No. 1) were the game's three stars.
