PENGUINS TAKE ON RIVAL FLYERS AT MELLON ARENA ON WEDNESDAY

The Pittsburgh Penguins hope to build on their momentum Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. at Mellon Arena against the Philadelphia Flyers.

The Penguins (13-11-5) are coming off a highly-successful three-game road trip. They picked up five of a possible six points – including emotional overtime and shootout victories.

Now, they take on the rival Flyers, a team they have beaten four times to start the season, so far – a franchise record.

Penguins center Sidney Crosby has goals in four-straight games – one shy of his longest such streak from last season – and points in five-straight contests (4+5). It has boosted his season totals to 41 points (14+27) in 26 games. He is tied for third in NHL scoring.

Penguins rookie sensation Evgeni Malkin has been red-hot, too. He has five points (2+3) in his last two games to give him 30 points (15+15) in 25 games. He leads all NHL rookies in scoring. Los Angeles forward Anze Kopitar, who has 25 points (6+19) in 32 games, is second.

It is a busy week for the Penguins. Counting their 5-4 shootout win in Washington on Monday, the team plays five games in nine days. They are home Friday against the Islanders, on the road Saturday in Montreal and back at Mellon arena on Tuesday against St. Louis.

FSN Pittsburgh will televise Wednesday’s contest at 7:30 p.m., while 105.9 The X will start its radio broadcast with a pregame show at 7 p.m. The broadcast may be found live through streaming audio on pittsburghpenguins.com as well. Tune in for Penguins Hotline following every game on 105.9 The X and the Penguins Radio Network. Join in the conversation with host Bob Grove by calling the Penn Telecom toll-free line at 1-866-922-2874.

Email crashthenet@pittsburghpenguins.com and maybe Bob Grove or Phil Bourque will answer your question during the second intermission of the game.
