CROSBY LEADS ALL-STAR VOTING; MALKIN, FLEURY NEAR THE TOP
NEW YORK – Pittsburgh Penguins center Sidney Crosby holds the top spot among Eastern Conference vote-getters with 247,854 votes in COLD-fX/NHL All-Star Fan Balloting, Presented by 2K Sports.
Penguins Evgeni Malkin and Marc-Andre Fleury are among the top vote-getters as well. The leading vote-getters by position are forwards Crosby, Malkin (156,469) and Alex Ovechkin of the Washington Capitals (112,501); defensemen Bryan McCabe of the Toronto Maple Leafs (174,205) and Jay Bouwmeester of the Florida Panthers (132,570); and Penguins goaltender Fleury (138,151).
To date, more than 6.5 million votes have been cast in the first 12 days of the all-digital voting program, surpassing total voting results in the entire 2003-04 voting period by approximately 10 percent.
The voting will determine the starting lineups for the 2007 NHL All-Star Game, which will be played on Wednesday, Jan. 24, in Dallas (8 p.m. ET, VERSUS). Fans can vote for six Eastern Conference All-Stars and six Western Conference All-Stars: three forwards, two defensemen and one goaltender for each team. If a player is not listed on the ballot, a space is provided for write-in votes. The three forwards, two defensemen and one goaltender from each Conference receiving the most votes will comprise the starting lineups. Each of the 30 NHL Clubs has at least two representatives on the ballot.
