CROSBY WILL PLAY TUESDAY AGAINST ISLANDERS

Sidney Crosby will be back on the ice Tuesday for the Pittsburgh Penguins against the Islanders at Mellon Arena.

The game has a special start time – 7 p.m., which is a half hour earlier than the usual 7:30 p.m. start.

It will be the first game for Crosby since he injured his groin on Nov. 20 in Philadelphia. The sore groin kept him out of the Penguins’ lineup for the last three games and the team posted a 0-1-2 record.

“I felt pretty good. I will be ready,” he said. “I had two pretty solid days of practice. I think today, I wasn’t sure how I was going to feel in the morning, but I felt pretty good; I felt better than I did yesterday. That was a good sign.”

Crosby is tied for fourth in the NHL in scoring with 30 points (10+20). With only 19 games played so far this season, he is the only player in the top 15 in the scoring race to not have played at least 22 games.

The other player is Alexei Yashin. The Islanders center has 28 points (10+18) in 22 games, but is out of the New York lineup with a sprained knee.

“It’s a big loss for them. He’s a great player,” Crosby said. “I don’t think we’re too focused on who is playing. I think we have to worry about our game.”

FSN Pittsburgh will televise the contest at 7 p.m., while 105.9 The X will start its radio broadcast with a pregame show at 6:30 p.m. The broadcast may be found live through streaming audio on pittsburghpenguins.com as well.
