ISLANDERS UPEND PENGUINS, 3-1
UNIONDALE, N.Y. – The Islanders upended the Penguins, 3-1, Friday afternoon.
Sidney Crosby sat out his second-straight game with a groin strain for the Penguins.
Alexei Yashin got the Islanders on the scoreboard with a 4-on-4 goal 2:12 into the second period.
Miroslav Satan made it a 2-0 game with 14:36 left in the third period with a redirection past Jocelyn Thibault.
Sean Hill rifled a slap-shot into the net with 11:32 to go for a 3-0 Islanders edge.
Evgeni Malkin scored with 7:13 remaining to break the shutout for the Penguins. Near the far face-off dot, Malkin fired a wrist shot past Rick DiPietro. Colby Armstrong and Mark Recchi picked up assists on the goal.
Pittsburgh returns home to battle the New York Rangers at 7:30 p.m. at Mellon Arena.
