PITTSBURGH – The Pittsburgh Penguins have assigned defenseman Eric Cairns to their American Hockey League affiliate, the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins, on a conditioning assignment, it was announced Thursday by General Manager Ray Shero.
Cairns, 32, has not appeared in a game this season with the Penguins after having knee surgery prior to the start of the regular season.
The 6-6 and 241-pound native of Oakville, Ontario appeared in 27 games last season with the Penguins, scoring one goal and recording 87 penalty minutes. Cairns has played in 456 career NHL games, recording 42 points (10+32) and 1,177 penalty minutes.
