PENGUINS SIGN KRISTOPHER LETANG

PITTSBURGH - The Pittsburgh Penguins have signed defenseman Kristopher Letang, it was announced Monday by General Manager Ray Shero.

Letang, 19, recorded 68 points (23+43) and 156 penalty minutes in 60 games with Val d'Or (QMJHL) during the 2005-06 season. He ranked fourth on the team in scoring and second among the team's defensemen in scoring and ranked third on the team in penalty minutes.

Letang also played in six games for Canada at the 2006 World Junior Championships, recording three points (1+2) and helping Canada to the gold medal.

Letang appeared in 70 games with Val d'Or during the 2004-05 season, recording 32 points (13+19) and 79 penalty minutes.

Letang appeared in four pre-season games with the Penguins, recording four points (1+3) to tie for fourth on the team in scoring.

The 6-0 and 205-pound native of Montreal, Quebec was drafted by the Penguins in the second round (62nd overall) of the 2005 NHL Entry Draft.
