PENGUINS WRAP UP CANADA TRIP WITH 2-1 WIN OVER FLYERS
LONDON, Ontario – The Penguins can pack away their passports.
The team wrapped up its four-game series in Canada on Sunday night with a 2-1 win over Philadelphia.
Pittsburgh played games in Halifax, Moncton, Hamilton and London in a six-game span this preseason. The Penguins won’t return to Canada until Dec. 16 when the squad plays in Montreal.
Ryan Stone got the Penguins on the scoreboard first Sunday night with his second period goal. He tallied 5:24 into the period on an Andre Roy assist.
Geoff Sanderson’s power-play goal tied the game at 1-all for Philadelphia. He found the back of the net with 3:19 left in the second.
John LeClair put Pittsburgh ahead, 2-1, with 4:46 to play. Mark Recchi and Jordan Staal assisted on the goal.
Jocelyn Thibault earned the win in goal as he stopped 21 of 22 shots.
The Penguins don’t play again until Friday, when they welcome Buffalo to Mellon Arena at 7:30 p.m.
However, the Penguins begin a three-day team-building session at the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, NY, starting Monday.
