The Pittsburgh Penguins have reached a player loan agreement with the Edmonton Oilers, it was announced Friday by Assistant General Manager Chuck Fletcher.

The Penguins and Oilers have entered into a one-year agreement for the 2006-07 season that enables the Oilers to send a limited number of players to the Penguins American Hockey League affiliate, the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins.

“The makeup of the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins will continue to consist primarily of Pittsburgh Penguins prospects,” said Fletcher. “This agreement is a great opportunity for us to increase the talent base in Wilkes-Barre while creating competition for our young players which will help their development.”

The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins finished the 2005-06 season with a 51-18-5-6 record, and captured the first regular season division title in team history. The team begins its 2006-07 campaign on October 4 against the Manitoba Moose.
