PITTSBURGH - Pittsburgh Penguins’ forward Ryan Malone has been awarded a two-year contract by an arbitrator, it was announced today by Penguins’ General Manager Ray Shero.

 Malone was awarded a salary of $1,300,000 for the 2006-07 season and a salary of $1,450,000 for the 2007-08 season.  His hearing took place on July 21.

 The 6-4 and 216-pound native of Pittsburgh, scored 22 goals and recorded 44 points in 77 games with the Penguins during the 2005-06 season.  Malone’s five short-handed goals led the team and ranked third in the league.  Malone tied for second on the team in goals, fourth in scoring and tied for third with 10 power-play goals.

 Malone also represented the Team USA at the 2006 World Championships, ranking second on the team in scoring during the tournament with four points (2+2).  He was named one of the top three U.S. players at the tournament.

 Malone was drafted by the Penguins in the fourth round (115th overall) of the 1999 Entry Draft.  He has appeared in 158 NHL games, all with the Penguins, recording 87 points (44+43) and 127 penalty minutes.
