PENGUINS HONOR BISHOP CANEVIN HIGH SCHOOL SENIOR WITH 2006 BOB JOHNSON MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

PITTSBURGH – The Pittsburgh Penguins have awarded the 2006 Bob Johnson Memorial Scholarship to Bishop Canevin High School senior Kevin Pawlos.  The scholarship, valued at $2,500, is co-sponsored by the Pittsburgh Penguins Booster Club.

The Johnson scholarship was started in 1992 and is presented annually to a western Pennsylvania high school senior for academic excellence, community service and for providing leadership, sportsmanship and a positive attitude as a member of their school’s hockey program.  Students must have a minimum grade point average of 3.2 to qualify for the scholarship.

Pawlos played defense for Bishop Canevin’s hockey team and served as team captain for both his junior and senior years.  As a senior, he recorded 4 goals and 20 points in 23 games with the Crusaders.  During his high school hockey career, he captured Pittsburgh Interscholastic Hockey League (PIHL) All-Star honors twice and was named Defensive Team MVP in 2004-05 and 2005-06.

He also excelled academically and achieved honor roll status each year during high school.  He was also honored with the Certificate of Excellence for maintaining a 3.0 or better QPA in each quarter of the 2004-05 and 2005-06 school years.

Pawlos lettered with Bishop Canevin’s baseball team the past two years and was a member of the Pittsburgh Predators travel hockey team where he recorded 6 goals and 28 points this season.

He is the son of Mark and Gail Pawlos of Pittsburgh, PA.  He will attend Youngstown State University in the fall where he plans to major in business management and continue his hockey career.
