MALONE\'S GOAL HELPS TEAM USA BEAT LATVIA

Penguins forward Ryan Malone scored a goal Saturday to help guide Team USA to a 4-2 win over Latvia at the World Championships.

Malone’s Penguins and Team USA teammates – forward Andy Hilbert and defenseman Brooks Orpik – both played, but did not register a point.

The victory secured a place in the final round for the Americans (2-2) in Latvia.

Team USA returns to action Tuesday against the Czech Republic.

On Sunday, Sidney Crosby and Team Canada take on the Czech Republic. Crosby, the Penguins’ 18-year-old superstar rookie, leads the tournament in scoring with nine points (5+4) in four games for unbeaten Canada (4-0).

Penguins super prospect Evgeni Malkin and Russia take to the ice Sunday as well. They meet Switzerland. Malkin, who is only 19, has six points (3+3) in four games. He is tied with Alexander Ovechkin for the team lead with six points. They are tied for fourth overall in tournament scoring.

Penguins winger Tomas Surovy and Slovakia meet Sweden on Sunday, while Penguins forward Jani Rita and Finland battle Norway on Sunday.
