MALKIN RACKS UP FOUR POINTS IN RUSSIA\'S ROUT

New tournament, same level of dominance for Evgeni Malkin.

The Pittsburgh Penguins super prospect scored a goal and had three assists for Russia as it opened the World Championships on Saturday in Latvia with a 10-1 rout of Kazakhstan.

Malkin, the second-overall pick in the 2004 NHL Entry Draft, continued his sensational season. The 19-year-old set up Alexander Ovechkin, the only NHL player on Russia’s roster, for all three of his goals. Malkin tallied Russia’s sixth goal.

Russia returns to action Monday against Belarus.

Belarus 2, Slovakia 1

Penguins winger Tomas Surovy and his Slovakia teammates dropped their World Championships opener on Saturday.

Surovy had two shots in the second period. Ivan Ciernik scored Slovakia’s lone goal.

Slovakia returns to action Monday against Kazakhstan.
