BABY PENS ADVANCE TO EAST DIVISION FINALS

The Baby Penguins rallied from a 0-2 series deficit to beat Bridgeport, 5-4, Saturday night at home to claim the best-of-seven AHL East Division semifinal.
Wilkes-Barre/Scranton advances to play Hershey. That best-of-seven series begins Thursday at 7:05 p.m. in Wilkes-Barre. Game 2 is Saturday at 7:05 p.m. in Wilkes-Barre as well. The series shifts to Hershey on Sunday at 5 p.m. and Tuesday at 7 p.m.
Saturday night, Jonathan Filewich provided the game-winning goal for the Baby Penguins. His empty-net tally from Max Talbot gave Wilkes-Barre/Scranton a 5-3 lead with 1:08 to play.
Rob Collins cut the Sound Tigers’ deficit to 5-4 with 44 seconds to go, but the Baby Penguins held on for the triumph.
Marc-Andre Fleury earned his second-straight win in goal for Wilkes-Barre/Scranton. He earned the win in Game 6 Friday night and turned away 27 of 31 shots Saturday.
Ryan Whitney got the Baby Penguins on the scoreboard with a goal 8:58 into the game. Ryan Stone and Talbot assisted on the play.
Allan Rourke tied the game at 1-all nearly two minutes later with a power-play goal.
However, Erik Christensen put Wilkes-Barre/Scranton up, 2-1, when he stole the puck, broke in alone on goal and buried the puck into the net with 2:24 left in the first period.
Dan Carcillo boosted the Baby Penguins’ lead to 3-2 just 1:12 into the second period. Whitney and Chris Kelleher had the assists.
Bridgeport struck back with a goal 54 seconds later when Justin Papineau scored.
Stone scored his third goal of the series 4:47 into the third period. Christensen set up the power-play goal to give Wilkes-Barre/Scranton a 4-2 lead.
Bruno Gervais brought Bridgeport within 4-3 on a power-play goal with 2:51 to play.
