FLYERS STAVE OFF PENGUINS RALLY FOR 4-3 WIN

PHILADELPHIA – The Pittsburgh Penguins rallied from a 3-0 deficit, but the Philadelphia Flyers posted a 4-3 win Tuesday night.

Philadelphia’s Simon Gagne fired a shot past Sebastien Caron 4:38 into the second period in a four-on-four situation.

Brian Savage scored with 9:52 left in the period to give the Flyers a 2-0 lead on another four-on-four situation.

Joni Pitkanen rifled a puck past Caron 3:32 later for a 3-0 Flyers advantage.

Michel Ouellet scored a power-play goal for the Penguins with 5:04 left in the period. He punched in a rebound of Andy Hilbert’s shot. It was Ouellet’s first power-play goal in 25 games. Sergei Gonchar and Hilbert assisted on the play.

Ryan Whitney roofed a shot past Esche 1:32 into the third to make it a 3-2 game. Skating down the slot, he took a pass from Sidney Crosby, who was behind the goal, waited a second and fired it into the goal. Gonchar had an assist.

Crosby scored with 11:44 to play to knot the game at 3-all. Gonchar fired a shot on goal and Malone deflected it to Crosby on the near post. The puck stuck right on Crosby’s stick and he slammed it in the net.

Jeff Carter responded with a power-play goal for Philadelphia with 6:32 remaining for a 4-3 lead.
