PENGUINS RETURN HOME SUNDAY AFTERNOON TO MEET DEVILS

Saturday, 04.01.2006 / 12:00 AM / Pittsburgh Penguins
Pittsburgh Penguins

The Pittsburgh Penguins return home to Mellon Arena on Sunday at 3 p.m. to take on the New Jersey Devils.

The unique start time marks the Penguins’ only afternoon Sunday game this year.

The Penguins are hoping for a repeat the last time the two teams met in Pittsburgh on March 11. The Penguins scored six goals on 16 shots against Martin Brodeur en route to a 6-3 triumph. Brodeur rebounded, though, on March 16 when he stopped 13 of 14 shots in a 2-1 victory in New Jersey.

Pittsburgh looks to sustain momentum gained from Friday’s 4-0 road shutout of the New York Islanders. Rookie Sidney Crosby had three points (1+2) and Sergei Gonchar scored two power-play goals. It ended Gonchar’s power-play drought that had lasted since Oct. 29.

Following the contest, the Penguins embark on a four-game road trip – their second-longest journey of the season. The Penguins return to Pittsburgh April 13 to take on the Rangers.

FSN Pittsburgh will televise Sunday’s contest at 3 p.m., while 3WS (94.5 FM) will start its radio broadcast with a pregame show at 2:30 p.m. The broadcast may be found live through streaming audio on pittsburghpenguins.com as well. Tune in for Penguins Hotline following every game on 3WS and the Penguins Radio Network. Join in the conversation with host Bob Grove by calling the Penn Telecom toll-free line at 1-866-922-2874.
