The Pennsylvania Interscholastic Hockey League 84 Lumber Penguins Cup Championship Series semifinal round concludes Wednesday at the Ice Castle in Castle Shannon.

The two Class AAA games will be played as North Allegheny (20-3-0) takes on Meadville (20-3-0) at 6:30 p.m. and Mount Lebanon (23-0-0) battles Bethel Park (18-4-1) at 8:30 p.m.

The first game matches the Bulldogs and Tigers. Meadville, which claimed multiple championships in the 1990s, is unbeaten in its last 16 games (15-0-1). The Bulldogs also claimed the only meeting with North Allegheny this season – a 3-1 triumph on Feb. 6.

Both teams received first-round byes. Meadville cruised past Fox Chapel, 8-3, in the quarterfinals, while the Tigers needed overtime to top Pittsburgh Central Catholic, 2-1.

The nightcap features a much-anticipated showdown between two rivals in the Blue Devils and Black Hawks. Bethel Park won last year’s Penguins Cup with a 1-0 shutout over North Allegheny and went on to claim the state title as well. The Black Hawks have won five Penguins Cup and state championships since 1997.

Meanwhile, Mount Lebanon enters as the PIHL’s most-dangerous team. The Blue Devils have not lost this year. They have three of the PIHL Class AAA’s top four regular-season scorers in Tyler Murovich (25+45), Josh Mandic (19+36) and Shane Ferguson (29+36) – a son of former Penguin George Ferguson. Those three players produced 190 points in the regular season for Mount Lebanon.

Both teams have yet to allow a goal in postseason play. Both received first-round byes. Mount Lebanon blanked North Hills, 8-0, in the quarterfinals, while Bethel Park rolled past Penn-Trafford, 11-0.

The semifinal winners advance to the Penguins Cup championship game on Saturday, March 25, at Mellon Arena at 5 p.m.
