The Penguins rolled past the Devils, 6-3, Saturday night at Mellon Arena. They followed it up with a 2-0 home shutout win over the Flyers the next night in the team’s best two-game stretch of the season.
Rookies Sidney Crosby and Colby Armstrong did the most damage over the weekend. Crosby had two goals and an assist in the win over the Devils and added two assists against the Flyers.
Meanwhile, Armstrong scored a goal against New Jersey and had both tallies against Philadelphia. It pushed his points streak to eight games (5+7). That ties Washington’s Alexander Ovechkin and Boston’s Brad Boyes for the second-longest rookie point streak this season in the NHL. Crosby owns the longest – a 10-point spree.
The Penguins travel to Montreal on Saturday before returning to Mellon Arena Sunday night to welcome the Maple Leafs.
