LEARN\'S FIVE POINTS RALLY MEADVILLE PAST FOX CHAPEL

Tyler Learn’s five-point effort Thursday night helped Meadville rally from a 3-1 deficit to post an 8-3 decision over Fox Chapel in a Pennsylvania Interscholastic Hockey League 84 Lumber Penguins Cup Class AAA quarterfinal game.

Learn scored Meadville’s first goal and assisted on four others as the Bulldogs (20-3-0) scored seven unanswered goals to post their 15th-straight victory. Morgan Nickerson had a hat-trick and an assist, while Christopher Learn had a goal and three assists. Patrick Leone had two goals and two assists. Mike Noonan had a goal and an assist, while Zane O’Shurak had two helpers. Casey Rogers and Luke Killmeyer added assists in the victory.

Steve Bartynski, Joey Budz and Kyle Misour all scored goals for Fox Chapel. Justin Kreps, Tyler Keenan and Zack Crowe had assists.

CLASS AA

PETERS TOWNSHIP 5, WEST ALLEGHENY 3

Gerald Raymond scored three goals to lead the Indians to the quarterfinal upset win.

Dustin Roux scored two goals and added an assist for Peters Township (15-8-0), the defending PIHL and state champion. Eric Windmueller had three assists, while David Rigatti and Jeff Hannan both added assists.

Ryan Kumpfmiller had three assists for West Allegheny (19-3-0). Anthony Lutz and Ryne Savisky had a goal and an assist, while Jeff Rich had a goal and Eric Difiore added an assist.

KITTANNING 5, MONTOUR 4 OT

Zach Avi’s overtime goal gave the Wildcats the quarterfinal victory.

Josh Ford led Kittanning (14-5-4) with a goal and two assists, while Avi added another goal on the evening. Lee Heilman and Nick Troup both had a goal and an assist, while Lucas Sasala and Colin McKelvey both had assists.

Zach Perry scored two goals and added an assist for the Spartans (14-7-1). Alex Wayne and Paul Ciotti both had goals, while Mario Victor and Keith Kurelis had assists.

BISHOP CANEVIN 4, CANON-MCMILLAN 3

Zack Haluszczak had a goal and two assists to lead the Crusaders to the quarterfinal win.

Mike Darnley had a goal and an assist for Bishop Canevin (16-4-2). Josh Daley and Jason Rogiero had goals, while Kevin Pawlos added an assist.

Justin Cormack had a goal and an assist for the Big Macs. Nick Cusolito and Corey Griffith had goals, while Jesse Patnesky, Kyle Harnen and Nathan Bohn added assists.

CLASS A

SERRA CATHOLIC 8, WESTMONT-HILLTOP 4

Josh Werner’s six-point night fueled the Eagles to the first-round victory.

Werner scored four goals and added two assists for Serra Catholic (20-2-1). Steven Gruhalla had two goals and an assist. Aaron Nolte had a goal and an assist, while Mike Ellis, Daniel Minnicks, Mike Puskar and Jared Matthews all had two assists for the Eagles. Joe Clark had a goal, while Roman Oliver and Bryan Hickey had assists.

Brenden Boyle had a goal and three assists for the Hilltoppers (9-13-1). Dave McKolosky and Alex Rohal had a goal and an assist. Ryan Wilson scored a goal, while Alexander Pozun added an assist.

The 84 Lumber Penguins Cup Championship Series moves to the semifinal round at the Ice Castle in Castle Shannon. Two games will be played Monday (Class A), Tuesday (Class AA) and Wednesday (Class AAA) at 6:30 p.m. and 8:30 p.m.
