MARIO LEMIEUX UNDERGOES SUCCESSFUL PROCEDURE

Pittsburgh Penguins owner Mario Lemieux today underwent a procedure known as “ablation” to restore a normal heart rhythm, the team announced.

Lemieux is resting comfortably and is expected to be released from the hospital tomorrow.

Lemieux, 40, who recently retired as a player, had been previously diagnosed with a heart condition known as atrial fibrillation (irregular heartbeat).

Mark Mortland, the Penguins’ trainer, said the goal of the ablation procedure is to ensure that Lemieux will not have to continue to take medication to control the condition.

Mortland said Lemieux is expected to be able to resume normal activity in a very short period of time.
