Russia rebounded from Wednesday’s loss to Slovakia with a 5-0 win over Sweden at the Winter Olympics on Thursday.
Penguins prospect Evgeni Malkin, the 2004 second-overall pick, had an assist for the Russians as he set up Maxim Sushinksy with a laser of a pass near the end of the second period.
Penguins defenseman Sergei Gonchar did not register a point for Russia, but he did have one shot on goal.
Penguins winger Tomas Surovy had an assist in Slovakia’s 6-3 victory over Latvia.
Russia returns to action at 5:30 a.m. Saturday against Kazakhstan, while Slovakia battles the United States at 2 p.m.
