The Penguins (12-32-11) have lost their last five games and are winless in 15 of their last 16 contests. They dropped a 7-2 decision to the Senators on Thursday at Mellon Arena.
Pittsburgh had a 2-0 lead for the first 32:24 before the Senators responded with seven-straight goals: three short-handed, three on the power play and one even-strength.
Special teams will be crucial once again Monday as Ottawa is ranked third in the NHL in power-play conversion at 20.8 percent and fifth in penalty killing at 85.0 percent. The Penguins rank 11th in power-play conversion at 18.4 percent and last in the league in penalty killing at 77.8 percent.
The contest is the first of four games this week for the Penguins. They play four games in seven days before the Olympic break begins. After Saturday’s game in Washington, the Penguins don’t play again until March 1 at home against the Senators.
