RANGERS ROLL PAST PENGUINS

NEW YORK – The New York Rangers rolled to a 7-1 win over the Penguins on Saturday in Madison Square Garden.

The Rangers posted a 30-8 edge in shots through the first two periods. The Penguins were limited to just two shots in the second. New York posted a 51-14 edge in shots for the game.

Marc-Andre Fleury made a diving save to deny Jaromir Jagr about 8:30 into the game. However, Jason Ward gave the Rangers a 1-0 lead 10 seconds later when he punched in a rebound.

With 4:42 left in the period, the Penguins went on a five-on-three advantage. Sidney Crosby tallied 38 seconds later. Mark Recchi threw a pass to Michel Ouellet, who was along the far goal line. He fired a pass across the crease to Crosby on the near post. Crosby ripped the puck at the net and it deflected off goaltender Henrik Lundqvist and went into the net.

Martin Rucinsky scored a power-play goal 11:48 into the second period. His one-time just trickled through Fleury’s pads.

Former Penguin Michal Rozsival gave the Rangers a 3-1 lead 2:10 later.

Jagr scored a power-play goal 6:47 into the third period to push the lead to 4-1.

Petr Prucha pushed New York’s lead to 5-1 at 8:52.

On a two-man advantage, Jagr rifled a slap-shot past Fleury for a 6-1 lead with 9:28 to play.

Jason Strudwick made it 7-1 with 2:33 remaining.

ICE CHIPS: Ric Jackman, Eric Boguniecki and Eric Cairns were the Penguins’ healthy scratches.
