ALUMNI HONOR LOCAL HIGH SCHOOL GRADUATE WITH INNAUGRAL ALUMNI SCHOLARSHIP
The Pittsburgh Penguins Alumni Association has awarded its first scholarship to Thomas Jefferson High School graduate Craig Markovitz. The scholarship, valued at $2,000, is co-sponsored by the NHL Alumni Association.
Dane Hetland of Bishop Canevin High School and Patrick Lemon of Shady Side Academy were also honored as finalists and received scholarship awards.

Markovitz served as the starting goaltender for Thomas Jefferson’s hockey team recording a 2.30 goals against average and an 89% save percentage. He was honored with the Scholar Athlete Award the past three years.
He also excelled academically as a member of the National Honor Society and received the “I Dare You” Leadership Award and Presidential Academic Fitness Award. He was also a member of the Varsity Tennis Team, Science Club, Marching Band, Jazz Band, Academic Quiz Team and served as President of the History Club.
In addition to school activities, his community service included participation in an annual Food Drive, Earth Day clean-up duties, playing Taps for community services and serving as Lay Leader for services at his local synagogue.
He is the son of Jeff and Randi Markovitz of Jefferson Hills, PA. He currently majors in biomedical engineering at Washington University at St. Louis.
